Brazil’s Amazon rainforest, the largest rainforest in the world is under severe threat when fire broke into the forest without any knock. It has cross the record numbers of fires this year with smoke emitting flames spreading across the forest rampantly. Both NASA and NOAA satellites have captured the damage that the fire has caused to the forest.
In fact, the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) satellite shows data of an 83 percent increase in forest fires as compared to the same period in 2018. The satellite data has detected more than 72,000 fires since January 2019.
President Jair Bolsonaro has sacked the head of the agency over its deforestation data. The forest is a vital carbon store that slows down the pace of global warming. It has millions of species of both plants, animals and indigenous people living together.
There are many conservationists who blames the President for encouraging loggers and farmers to clear the land.
Brazil’s major city Sao Paulo has been grievously affected and it was under serious blackout due to heavy smoke caused in the daytime.
“The smoke did come from fires from the state of Sao Paulo, but from very dense and wide fires that have been going on for several days in Rondonia and Bolivia,” says Joselia Pegorim, Climatempo meteorologist to Globo.
It has also been reported that many a time there are deliberate efforts to illegally deforest land for cattle ranching which is a serious concern and a threat to our environment.
The images of widespread smoke has been captured by NASA with the help of satellite images.
