The Indian politics is in a continuous process to erase and rewrite the record of being shamelessness. Already notorious of bringing criminals to Parliament, this time they are bringing a psychopath killer to mainstream politics. Shambhulal Regar, who in the name of Hindutva and preventing love jihad, hacked and burnt a Muslim man on camera, will be contesting election. Can we stoop below this?

Media reports suggest that Regar has been offered a ticket by the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena. He has reportedly accepted the offer.

“The Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena has decided that for the Agra Lok Sabha seat, the party’s candidate will be Shambhulal Regar. He will contest the election from inside Jodhpur jail, where he is currently lodged. We want only Hindutva faces to contest elections on our party’s tickets and there can be nobody better than him. We will soon make a formal announcement.”

Amit Jani, national president of the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena, told News18

Who is Shambulal Regar?

Regar, in December 2017, had hacked a Muslim, Mohd Afrazul, a Bengali migrant worker, to death while another person recorded the act on camera and circulated the video on social media.

The psychopath was later honored by the local public. He was honoured with a tableau during Ram Navmi celebrations in the city.

Regar had an illicit relationship with the woman he referred to as the “Hindu sister” in the video, police have said in the charge sheet.

He might have raised the love-jihad bogey to cover for the murder that was driven by jealousy as Regar was upset over the woman keeping in touch with a labourer with whom she had allegedly eloped years ago. The labourer, too, was from West Bengal.
