Sivathanu Pillai, former DRDO scientist recently declared that ten years from now we will be able to extract Helium from the surface of the Moon.
“In the space program, we are one of the four countries that have complete mastery over technology.” He further states- “ India will be able to set up a factory on Moon to process huge reserves of precious raw material and bring the extracted Helium-3 to Earth.”
A non-radioactive material like Helium-3 will be the new energy material for the future which will be able to produce 100 times more energy than Uranium.
India’s base on Moon will also “become a hub for future launches” for missions to other planets in the solar system.
Countries such as the United States, Russia, and China have shown their interest to create a base on the Moon.
