According to a report in MoveInSync technology Chennai is the fastest city for office commute, at 25.7 kmph. Meanwhile Bengaluru and Mumbai were the slowest at 18.7 kmph and 18.5 kmph respectively.
The report titled (Travel Time Report Q1 2019 vs Q1 2018) collected data from the rides in MoveInSync application . The data was collected from the 6 major cities of India- Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR and Mumbai.

The average travel speed of these cities is 2 minutes and 26 seconds. The report also stated that Indians spend seven per cent of their daily time travelling to and from work. Globally, the time spent by Indians in daily office commute is the highest in the world, with Indians spending more than 2 hours of their day on the road.

The report also highlights the worst and best days for commute and the hours which see the least traffic. Monday’s was found to be the worst day across all the six cities. Tuesday was the best for Bengaluru, Thursday for Delhi NCR and Friday for Chennai and Hyderabad.

The worst time to commute was 9 am for five cities, with 8 am for Delhi NCR. In the evening, the time varied from 6 to 7 pm.

According to Deepesh Agarwal, co- founder and CEO of the platform- “In this report we see that the average commute time has either increased or remained the same even if there has been a reduction in the average distance travelled to work. This can only be attributed to one thing and that is traffic congestion. A long commute time also hampers the productivity of an employee and as NITI AYOG has stated, the economic loss of congestion for India’s top 4 metros is estimated at $22 billion annually. The governments at both the national and state level have taken initiatives to strengthen the urban infrastructure and public transport system to address the twin challenges of pollution and congestion. However, it is also in the interest of each one of us to take initiatives at our level or at an organisation’s level.”
