There are days when feeling an increased emotion of fear, alertness and much other physical science such as rapid heart rate. It is said that anxiety is a normal and healthy emotion but there will be days when you will be completely overpowered by the same.

A dose of Omega-3 fat with polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are considered beneficial in order to curb anxiety along and depression. It is mostly found in fish oils. It has become a common belief now and people have been following these findings religiously. But now, researchers in a study have found out that fish oil supplements have little or no effect on such conditions.

Oily fish can be a very nutritious food as part of a balanced diet but we found that there is no demonstrable value in people taking omega-3 oil supplements for the prevention or treatment of depression and anxiety,” said study researcher Katherine Deane.

Though Omega-3 fat is readily available in Salmon, nuts, and seeds and is considered essentially good for health, the supplements offer no benefit to our health as published in the British Journal of Psychiatry.

“This large systematic review included information from many thousands of people over long periods,” said study lead author Lee Hooper, from the University of East Anglia in the UK. He further added- “Despite all this information, we don’t see protective effects, the most trustworthy studies consistently showed little or no effect of long-chain omega-3 fats on depression or anxiety, and they should not be encouraged as a treatment.”

31 trials of adults with or without depression were looked at in their findings where more than 41,470 participants were asked to consume more long-chain omega-3 fats for a period of six months. After six months of study, they found out that the supplements have little or no effect in preventing anxiety or depression symptoms.
